Teacher Externship Application
Information before you apply to be a Teacher Extern
The goal of a Teacher Externship is to help teachers better connect the content and skills they teach to the needs of Iowa's STEM businesses and organizations throughout our state, and:
- Teacher Externships are geared toward STEM educators in grades 7-12.
- They last for six, 40-hour work weeks, typically starting in June and ending in July but there is often great flexibility in fulfilling the time commitment to meet the needs of the Teacher Externs.
- Teacher Externs earn an income through a stipend of up to $4,800 and one graduate credit through the University of Northern Iowa's Continuing Education program paid for by the Teacher Externships program. There is also the option of earning two Licensure Renewal credits offered through AEA 267.
Teacher Externship matches will be made based on business needs and teacher qualifications. Program managers and potential business hosts in your area will review applications. Externship placements will begin in March and will extend into the spring as new host partners are identified for qualified applicants.
Please note: Submission of an application does not guarantee a summer externship placement.
